What is a lambskin condom?
Lambskin condoms are made from a thin membrane of sheep intestine. They are often called sheepskin condoms or ‘skins,’ and are known to have a special sensitivity.
If you’re allergic to latex, lambskin condoms may be the way to choose.
However, some risks to consider. It’s important to know that while lambskin condoms do protect against pregnancy, they do not prevent the transmission of HIV or any other sexually transmitted diseases.
Lambskin condoms are very thin and transmit body heat better than latex does. This is why many feel that these condoms generate the best sensation and pleasure compared to latex condoms. Another reason is that the natural condoms can be used with oil-based lubricants.
The reason that lambskin condoms are not as effective as the traditional latex condoms against STDs and HIV is because the membrane has tiny pores, sperm is too large to get through, but viral STDs, like HIV and herpes can seep through these types of condoms.
Perhaps those in a committed relationship, where each partner knows their status, might consider giving lambskin condoms a try, but they are not recommended for casual use.
